The What, How, When of the Alien SuiteThe alien suite is a series of songs written by Danielle Hébert. Danielle performs the songs on guitar, keyboard, computer wizardry and vocals. On bass is Dino Dinicolo, on drums is Terry Paton and on guitar Chris Percy. The guest musicians on this recording are : Vincent Mai on horns and keyboards, Pierre Imbert on hurdy gurdy, John Roper on jazz guitar and Mike Rheault on organ. The production and engineering hats were worn by Juno winner Commodor Perry Barrett. Mr. Barrett created a brilliant three-dimensional soundscape that reflects the spirit of the music and lyrics.
The idea behind the Alien Suite is that spaceships are not a part of the future but part of our past. Sometimes we remember… Hence our fascination for science fiction movies lie Star Wars and series like Star Trek.
The songs on the Alien Suite touch all sorts of viewpoints such as aliens, humans as aliens, past lives, the spiritual connection of the soul and space as well as feeling alien in this world.
Musically a lot of ground is covered going from really spooky and weird atmospheres to very groovy and funky to anthemic songs. Each participating musician’s abilities are clearly showcased. The general feel is one of free expression, freedom and gleeful dare…
We were once told that this music took listeners to the stars, forgetting their bodies behind. So come aboard, there are no seat belts, no speed limits in this wide, open alien space!

Québec native, Danielle Hébert's latest release The Alien Suite is an exceptional recording. It is her second full-length and first all English release. Although the CD was actually recorded in 2000, it has recently been re-released.

The performances, compositions, arrangements and production on The Alien Suite are all excellent. Hébert cites Beethoven, Miles Davis and Hendrix as early influences, and her compositions reflect this broad scope of styles. The CD's title alludes to the ethereal collection music within as each song definitely evokes its own atmosphere.

What immediately draws one's attention when listening to The Alien Suite is Hébert's hauntingly beautiful voice, both as a lead vocal and in rich harmony tracks. As exceptional as her voice is though, it's hard not to also appreciate Hébert's guitar playing.

Though they definitely play a supporting role, the musicians Hébert selected for The Alien Suite are as equally adept at creating atmospheres as she. From song to song, or even within a song's form the moods can suddenly change and the musicians adapt beautifully. They are equally capable of minimalist hinting, as they are all-out driving.

she is currently working on a new project, in French this time. This is good news as it would be a travesty to for her to stop something for which she has such obvious talent.
