What is Aventuriere Accidentelle about?

Aventurière Accidentelle is a work that describe using imaginary worlds the experience of being uprooted, and the road our hero has to walk in order to find herself and make her own choices in this new world. It is for the artist a mythological view of being francophone in western Canada with the references to the environment, the soul and magic of this part of the country.

Once upon a time in Eastern Canada, an ordinary young woman was leading an ordinary life. She dreams of travels and amazing adventures beyond the corners of the too familiar walls of her world but she does not have the courage and determination to change her fate. Her universe is about to be completely transformed when her grand mother gives her a ticket for an economy seat on a plane en route to Western Canada.

The plane takes off and gets on its way without a hitch until, over Saskatchewan, a huge thunder storm batters the plane and sends it tumbling out of control towards earth. Our girl looking out the window in panic sees that where the prairies used to be is now a huge ocean. The plane plunges in the cold waters… she finds herself underwater, unharmed surrounded by sirens, sharks, shiny sea creatures and finally the inhumanly handsome Neptune. She faints.

She wakes up on a deserted beach in world devoid of humans. That's where her journey begins. She meets different characters: a giant spider, a tree cutting creature, the forest's elves and her destiny.

Musically it is an adventure between French chanson, jazz and new music. We can imagine a song that opens its form to virtuosity and improvisation without losing its structure. The instrumentation includes: guitars, cello, violin, clarinet, trumpet, double bass, percussions and drums, electronic loops and voices. We can enjoy ingenious and daring string arrangements as well as intricate multi-parts voice counterpoint.

The production is signed by Danielle Hébert and Commodor Perry Barrett. The arrangements by Tony Wilson, François Houle and Danielle Hébert.

Danielle took charge of the words and music, voices, electric and classical guitars, recorder flute, Fender Rhodes piano, percussions, sequencing of loops, editing, artistic direction, graphic design and the executive production of the project.

The players are a stellar group of West Coast musicians: François Houle on clarinet, Tony Wilson on guitar, Jesse Zubot on violin, Peggy Lee and Finn Manniche on cello, Dan Jacobs on trumpet, Paul Plimley on piano, Miles Hill on basses, Dylan Van Der Schyff, Randall Stoll and Elliot Polsky on drums and percussions. And our special guests with the magnificent voices of the a capella group Madrigaïa from Winnipeg on "Dans le Ventre de la Forêt" and Dino Dinicolo and Terry Paton on "l'Araignée"

The project was mainly recorded in Richmond British Columbia at Danielle's studio : Dark Horse Productions. It was engineered, recorded, mixed and mastered by Commodor Perry Barrett.
