About a girl and horses
The horse has always been of major importance in the life of the artist. A passion that was born from the depths of her being and took the artist on a lifelong quest. From her first riding lessons to the horse shows, to teaching young riders, working with standardbreds at Montreal’s Blue Bonnets Racetrack, to the provincial three day event championships. Her school books were filled with sketches of horses.
The artist discovered the polymer clay, a type of clay that can be oven cooked, while searching for a medium she could use at home, this way solving the difficulties attached to natural clay. She started evolving these horses and their abstract painted backgrounds in order to create a multidimentional space where the observer could find the concrete strenght of the lines of the horse married to the depth of the abstractions. The paintings are made of acrylic paint, gold leaf on wood bases.
The stone pieces are made of different types of alabaster from around the world. All the works are made by hand with chisels and hammer, polished by hand with sandpaper. It takes from 6 to 9 months to create one of theses pieces.
Danielle continues her exploration in sculpture and works under the guidance of master sculptor Alberto Replanski at his studio in Steveston
